Zeynep Ergenç’s reflection and experiences

In the community service course, Yasemin Hoca wanted us to create a website to transfer our sources to other candidates for being an English teacher. We are delighted to have developed something new for different grades of students. It is our first time creating an educational website. In terms of our personal and professional development, the journey has been immensely beneficial.

Firstly, we composed our teams with 3-4 members. After a while, Yasemin Hoca wanted to choose a unit among the ones her former students prepared. After deciding on the unit, we have tried to find areas for improvement regarding language level, visual quality, etc. We have also analyzed existing materials. We have assessed and criticized all details deliberately. We noted down the areas that we believe we should improve.

The following phase is selecting a name for our website. We have embraced the expression “Critical ELT Materials.” In addition, some members of our team worked on the copyright issues of all visuals and texts in the unit while other members were responsible for the answer key and disabled QR codes in our unit. Furthermore, we needed to learn about where the texts were taken because we had to refer to them for the copyrights. After accessing the original form, we have changed some visuals and written texts for which we cannot get permission to use it our website.

Yasemin Hoca informed us about the logo. We could eventually get our domain and create our website officially.

It was such an innovative and enjoyable journey for us to work together. Our materials are necessary for educating individuals in comprehending the significance of being a worker. Therefore, we wanted to upload vital assets that emphasize these fundamental issues in a clear and understandable manner so that people may begin to prioritize the importance of workers’ value. We hope you will enjoy utilizing this open-access website for your educational purposes.

Meryem Kablan’s reflection and experiences:

Working on this project has been a great experience because it allows me to contribute to the community while developing valuable skills. The most exciting part was collaborating with different people and seeing the positive impact of our efforts. Although managing time effectively was challenging, I overcame it through careful planning and prioritization. Throughout this project, I have learned the importance of teamwork, communication, which has also helped me build confidence and responsibility. Overall, it has been a rewarding journey, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it!

Zeynep Karaman’s reflection and experiences:

Being an editor in this project was a valuable experience for me. I am excited about this project because it allows us to engage many students with our materials that prioritize critical pedagogy. Together, we can make a significant impact on their educational journeys. We solved our challenges by consulting Yasemin Hoca, who helped us navigate obstacles during the project. This process improved my attention to detail and ability to adapt content for diverse learners.
